I will be moving the news from the Main page to this location when it has been up on the site for over a month.
This will keep the old postings accessible if anyone wants to see what was posted in the months past.

So progress is happening.
Wishing all our members, friends and supporters…Happy Holidays…and a Healthy 2026!
Membership Forms for 2026-2027 will be placed on the website shortly.
Remember our membership year goes from April 1st to March 31st.

As we putt…putt…putt into the New Year
Please give some thought to activities you would like to have for the 2026 year.
1. The Fun Shoot that we did in conjunction with the 4-H Shooting Program was well attended.
We would love to do another one.
2. 22 Shoot, more of a Fun Shoot for members has been requested. Should we do one or two?
3. Black Powder Shoot, in 2024 we managed to squeeze one of these in. We had 15 participants
and all seemed to have a great time.
4. Of course the Kids Fishing Derby. We again will have to get our fish for this from Hy on the Hill
as the State Hatchery we have gotten them from in the past will not be able to provide us in
2026.
More Clothing Items added – See the Clothing page for the new gray items added.
Consider the gray tee in short or long sleeve or a gray zip hoodie for a Christmas or Birthday gift. See Paul at Gateway Sports or avfgclub.secretary@gmail.com to place an order, put Clothing in the subject line please. We will have to check on what sizes we have left available.

Bean & Ham Dinner and Shooting Events
Rescheduled for October 19th, 2025
At the September 3rd meeting the Bean & Ham Dinner time line was discussed. Originally we had planned to do the Dinner and Shooting Events on September 21st, 2025. The amount of time between 9/3/2025 and 9/21/2025 did not give us enough time to print, distribute and sell the Fall Raffle Tickets that are also part of this Club Event.
Members at the meeting looked at the Calendar for October to find a weekend that would work best for this event. October 19th for the Dinner, Shooting Events and Raffle Drawing made sense to all present. The raffle prizes were decided on. The tickets need to be printed, as well as the posters for the Event.
The Shooting Events for Sunday, October 19th were discussed and the decision was made to have Trap Shooting, a Youth Trap Shooting event, Black Powder Shooting (since it is so close to Muzzle Loader Hunting season.) and a Pistol Shooting event. We will need volunteers to help with these events as well as volunteers for Cleaning and Set up on Saturday October 18th, 2025 starting at 10 am – it usually takes 2 to 3 hours. Volunteers needed for Sunday for Food set up and service as well as clean up after the meal.
NH 4-H Shooting Sports Program looking for volunteers to become instructors.
Shannon MacKay is the NH 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator, she is also the Director for the Barry Conservation Camp.
She is looking for volunteers to train as instructors for the Shooting Sports Program. Please take a look at the info below and email or call Shannon if you are interested in volunteering to take the Instructor course and work with the 4-H Shooting Sports Program.
The 50 yard backer has been repaired AGAIN!!
Please do not hang your targets on the top wooden supports.

September 6th & 7th, 2025 – Range Closed – Hunter Education 2 day Traditional Course
This weekend the club will be hosting a Hunter Education 2 day Traditional Course. The Range will be closed each day from 9 am to 3 pm. It looks like we may have a full class for this course. We have been getting an excellent turn out for the Hunter Education Field Days. A good balance of ages, both male and female attendees.

August 2025
Friday – August 15, 2025 – Range Closed starting at 8 am – Tree Removal
We will also be mowing the field tomorrow so please be aware you may not be able to shoot tomorrow.

July 2025
Trap Shooting returning to 4 pm effective 7/22/2025
We tried 2 weeks of starting at 5 pm. Instead of increasing the number of participants, we lost some of our regular Tuesday shooters.
The decision was made to return to the 4 pm start time. Come when you can, we are usually there until 5 pm. If Tuesday does not fit your schedule, join us on Sunday at 9 am.
Thanks for understanding. . .

June 2025
Change of location of the Super Raffle Dinner and Drawing!!
We have had to change the location for the Super Raffle Dinner and Drawing.
We will be moving to the American Legion Facility in Woodsville, NH.
We will still be setting up on Friday Afternoon – at the American Legion – I will confirm the time with the scheduler at the Legion and let all the volunteers know.
The Prime Rib will be cooked at the American Legion by Jim Marshall – who is skilled with this process as he has done this for the Legion activities a number of times.
We will be finishing the meal prep and set up on Saturday before 4:30 – I will have the time frame after talking with the scheduler at the Legion.
Please spread the word. If you don’t want to purchase a raffle ticket – you can still purchase a meal ticket for $25 and join us at the American Legion for the dinner and some visiting…..
The Range Rules have been revised to clarify the usage of the 15 yard & 25 yard berm.
Meeting Summaries from April, May & June are now on the website.
Revisions to June and August Calendars – Please Review the updates on these months.
Lew Mardin 22 Plinker Shoot – June 1st, 2025
The weather was cold and windy, but we had no rain. We had 32 shooters on the registration list. Among those shooting were some 1st time 4-H members from the area. Those young people shot with ‘borrowed guns and gun rests’ from Club members and did surprisingly well for their very first 22 Plinker Shoot.
The meal was enjoyed by all present – Burgers, Hot Dogs, Baked Beans, Mac & Cheese and another Pasta dish, chips and a beverage. The hot food was very welcome.
We got our burger from Profile Meats in North Haverhill! The burger got rave reviews from those attending the shoot. Mac & Cheese made by June Griswold, Baked Beans and the other Pasta dish made by Mike Emerson.
We had 2 tables full of door prizes that we did while the final scores were being tabulated.
Prizes were awarded in the Three Classes – Plinker, Tack Driver and One-Holer – We are waiting on an email from Dennis so we can post that info on the website. They will then be posted on the Shooting Events page along with some pictures from the day.
Thank you to all our Volunteers who worked in the wind and cold to make this happen!!
Annual Kids Fishing Derby – June 7th, 2025
Get ready for the 2025 Kids Fishing Derby!!
We are starting a little later in the morning this year. The Fish this year will be coming from Hy-On-A Hill Trout Farm in Plainfield, NH. They are going to deliver them to us, but we are not sure of an exact time. So we have pushed registration out to 8:30 am and start of Fishing to 10:00 am.

We had a very busy and successful Work Day!!
Thank you to all who came and brought tools!!

Raking was done, the wads and broken clay birds were all cleaned up.
Brush and debris at the river side was taken care of in preparation for the June 7th Fishing Derby.
The 50 yard berm has had backstop posts and backstop material replaced.
Then they moved on to the Trap Building, putting a door into the back room area where different supplies are stored.
A group cleaned out the storage closet in the main club house, then a group moved there to build more shelving for there.
Items to return to the storage closet were sorted out and moved back in after the shelves were put in.
A group uncovered the stack of log siding, (we have 8 pieces of that) they moved it to a location to ‘get it dried out’
and maybe that will happen in the next couple of weeks, then it can be moved to a ‘off the ground’ storage location.
The frig in the kitchen was cleaned and stocked with the water and soda that we have left.
The kitchen counters were all cleaned.
Supplies for when we have events with food were inventoried so we can restock any that we are low on.
The supplies for the bathrooms were inventoried, so we have know what we have at the club.
And we got almost all of this done BEFORE the rain.
I know I saw some people working that ‘forgot’ to sign the sheet!!
We had more than 30 very willing workers…some new members, some older members and the usual crew of ‘always volunteering’ members
Work Day – Sunday May 18th at 8 am
Bring your work gloves, your favorite rake, shovel, hoe or loppers. ‘
Chainsaws?
If you have carpentry skills and tools, please bring them.
We have started the construction of the enclosure for the shooting area.
Some of the chores for the day
Rake up the wads and broken birds
Rake & smooth the areas that had scrapes from plowing this winter
Clear brush from the riverside and any debris from the winter water level
The culvert area at the bottom of the driveway….the culvert is full,
may have to dig it up, clear it out and re-install it.
(Ed Fisher will bring his tractor with backhoe if we are going to do that he said.
NEW backstops in a couple of locations
Uncover and inspect the log siding we found next to the gray shed and find a better storage location for it if it is still salvageable
Clean up the storage closet in the club house so we can measure it for shelves
(Bring flash lights – no lights in that area)
There are probably more items that I’ve not gotten on this list
I will have a full list on Sunday
Mowing !!
First mowing of the field and around the club house will take place either Wednesday 5/14 or Thursday 5/15.
Mowing will take place starting at around 9 am – giving the grass some time to dry before the mowing begins.
Please be advised the gate will be closed and we are asking everyo ne to not attempt to use the facility while this first mowing is taking place.
I will get the mowing on the calendars as soon as a schedule is decided.

Thank you to WYKR for all the advertising time they have donated to the Club
WYKR has been a long time support of the Ammonoosuc Valley Fish & Game Club. They broadcast info on our events! Listen to WYKR for events and happenings at the Club! Another resource to find out what is going on in our ‘neighborhood’.

Beautiful day to shoot Trap – this picture from Sunday 9/15/2024 – Come Join Us. . .
We have a great group of people that shoot trap on Tuesdays at 4 pm as well as Sundays at 9 am. Once the days get dark earlier the Tueday shooting will come to a pause until around April of 2025. We will move the Sunday shooting to 11 am at the end of Day Light Savings time on November 3, 2024. Watch the site, or Facebook or the Calendars for those schedule changes.

Suggested Add on Event for September 28th, 2024
We will be revisiting this proposed shooting event in January to get it on the schedule for 2025. We did not get enough response to allow us to squeeze this in on 9/28/2024.
This posting is at the request of Gary Griswold – President of the Club – we need to know if we can get volunteers and participants for this suggested add on event.
One of our senior members, Bruce Simonds has asked that we have a 100th Anniversary Field Day in conjunction with our Bean Hole Dinner.
It would be different targets for shooting at 50 yards, 100 yards, 200 yards, with open sights, and lower power scopes, off hand shooting. Rest shooting, Deer, Buffalo, playing cards and balloon targets. This will be open to the public.
Bring your own lunch, and drinks will be on sale at the club.
I know this is asking a lot and we need some new people to volunteer for this. We also need to see if there are enough that would participate in this event.
Thanks,
Gary Griswold

Email: gateway2325@gmail.com
Ammonoosuc FUN SHOOT – 22 Plinker Shoot Updated click the link to take you to the updated page
$500 and Under 22 Shoot – We would use a 100 yard IBS center fire target. We would use it at 50 yards for the 22 LR to give a larger target. These would be 20 minute matches for a seven member squad. We would have as many squads as needed so that everyone can shoot. Example: if we have 35 shooters there will be 5 squads with seven in each squad.
Check out the suggested rules for the shoot and the target that would be used. Watch for More info on this.

Next: A Letter to All Members
I hope everyone is having a great summer, even though it is going by so fast. This past weekend we had the first of our 2 Plinker shoots which was quite successful. It was really nice to have some of our own club members participate in this shoot and we are looking forward to have even more of our members in the next one. As I have always said, you can bring whatever you have for a rifle and we can put you in a group that you will be competitive. You do not have to have a very expensive gun.
At this time I want to thank all of the volunteers that help put this show on. As always we had the same group of people that are always there to help with the festivities, taking care of the food and cooking and serving.
Great job, Don and Ann Dodge and Rich Hahn.
Setting up all the targets and changing targets when needed, thanks Eddie Fisher and John Cookson.
Getting everyone registered and the paperwork that goes along with it, Ann Dodge, Paul Doolittle, Brad Gilbert, Mark Lancaster, Mike, Donnie Clark. Bill Nunn for all the work on the water, replacing the pump, pressure switch and pressure tank. Also all the footwork that goes along with getting donations from different businesses. Thank you to our regulars show up for each time we have a work detail and those that come to every meeting to give their support and input on club matters.
Thank You to everyone that does this. All of you are GREAT!!!
Most of these people are the ones doing all the maintenance out at the club, so when you see them please thank them. If I missed anyone I apologize.
It would be wonderful if we could get some of the newer members and also some of the ones that we do not see very often come and help with these club functions. It seems that we always have the same core group showing up for all the times we need volunteers. We always have enough volunteers, but our core group could use a break sometimes. With over 200 members it seems we could get some newer members to help with these functions. There will be a sign up sheet at the Super Raffle for members that would like to help with our last three functions of the year.
Please remember, Our 100th anniversary Super Raffle is being held this Saturday at the Clubhouse. There are many cash prizes and other door prizes to go along with a wonderful spaghetti dinner with all the fixings. There are still a few Tickets left for the Super Raffle for sale at Gateway, and they should be available at the door. You can get your meal ticket the same way. Everyone be sure and help with this dinner because this is our Major fund raiser for the year. Without funds it is hard to maintain the beautiful club that we have.
For those of you that are upset that we will not be renting the club after this year, it was not decided by just the officers and directors. We had a lot discussion on this at the regular monthly meetings, and we did have a vote by the entire membership that was there at that meeting. We also met with attorneys that said we should not do it anymore because of the liability.
In closing Thank You to all the members and have a safe and healthy summer.
Gary Griswold
President A.V. F.&G.

Members – Please remember it is not appropriate to put clay pigeons on the berms and shoot them.
You will see broken clay pigeons on the 50 yard berm, these are the result of trap shooting. Do not pick up the unbroken clay pigeons and put them on the pistol berm (or the 25 yd berm) and shoot them. We have been seeing clay pigeons on the pistol berm and been removing them only to have more appear there. This picture below shows a group shooting trap and a red arrow pointing to the 50 yard berm. If you visit the range you will see broken orange clay pigeons on this berm, the path of the birds is over that berm when they launch to the right, and the pieces and unbroken birds will land there.
