Work Detail……
At the May Meeting we decided to try an ‘after your work’ schedule for our first Work Detail this year.
Monday – May 18th at 4 pm
We will hold our first work detail. The main objective of this work will be focused on ‘Outside Grounds’.
We will be clearing brush, raking, making safe access to the river for the Kids Fishing Derby.
Bring work gloves, loppers, weed wackers, rakes – if you are skilled with a chain saw bring one, just in-case.
Don Clark will be checking for trees or limbs that are ‘unsafe’ during the coming week.
Mark Lancaster will be cleaning up the broken clays on the field
We expect only to do a couple of hours of work this first work detail.
Other Maintenance work will be on going. . . . . . .
We will be getting the water reconnected to the building and flowing so that we have the bathrooms available for the Fishing Derby.
We will be calling on the members that are electricians to do a review of the items that we have identified as needing some TLC.
We will be getting the clubs lawn mower back to the property from its winter storage so that it is ready when we need to mow.
June 6th – Annual Kids Fishing Derby

The Annual Kids Fishing Derby will be held the first Saturday in June.
June 6th, 2026
Volunteers should arrive at 7 am. Fish are coming from Hy-On-A Hill Trout farm again this year. We are getting 150 Brookies and 50 Rainbow this year.
Registration for the Kids starts at 8 am with Fishing to commence at 9 am and going until noon. We will be serving a lunch to all those attending. Lunch will be hotdogs, chips and a beverage and dessert.
Last year we had cookies rather than cake as part of the lunch. This went over very well, so again this year we will be asking members to help supply cookies or brownies for the dessert portion of the lunch.
If you can volunteer to help on the day of the Fishing Derby or can bake a couple dozen cookies or brownies for that day please email the Secretary

Community Happenings……
Bath Village School – Trout in the Classroom
The Club was very pleased to be included in this project. They were looking for a suitable location for their fingerling release. The access to the water and the environment provided by the stretch of the Wild Ammonoosuc River that the club is on would offer a fantastic educational experience for the students as the conclude their months-long project of raising these trout.
In addition to releasing the trout, they engaged in some hands-on field science. They collected macroinvertebrates from the river and conducted water quality testing.
Click on the link to the page we have created to highlight their release of the fingerlings at the Club.

Something Different For a Raffle. . . .

Locking the Padlock at the Gate
Recently we have had instances of the padlock not being ‘locked’ after a member leaves the range, closes the gate and ‘locks’ the padlock.
Remember – the padlock needs to be at the ‘unlock’ code when you go to close and lock the padlock
Hold the lock closed and roll the numbers to securely lock the padlock
Always check that the padlock is ‘locked’ before you leave Please.

Bath Village School – Trout in the Classroom Release
May 4th 8:30 am to 11 am – Karen Bellidoro will be bringing the 5th & 6th grade classes from Bath Village School to release their Trout in the Classroom trout in the Ammonoosuc River at our club site.
In addition to releasing the trout, they hope to engage the students in some hands-on field science. Depending on the water levels that morning, they would like to have the 5th & 6th graders collect macro-invertebrates from the river and conduct water quality testing.
Karen is also in contact with NH Fish & Game to see if they might be available to perform electrofishing( e-fishing) while they are at the club. This would be an incredible opportunity for the students to collect real-time data and compare the health and population of the AVFG club site on the Wild Ammonoosuc with their previous study of Bedell Brook.
If the weather is not good on May 4th – their day at the club will be moved to May 5th, same time on Tuesday as planned for Monday.
May 2026 Calendar has been updated to include this Trout in the Classroom Release
Club Work Day
Date to be decided – May Meeting is May 6th at 7 pm at the Club House

- Get the water back on at the club house and check the faucets and toilets for any winter damage.
- Clean up of the broken clay pigeons and the wads on the shooting field
- Repair of the backstops at the 25, 50, 100 & 200 yard berms
- Possibility of more work to the 15 yard berm
- Cutting of brush on the side of the Hunter Ed shed to enable them to have tree stands for the Hunter Ed Field Days
- If anyone has any free time and some brush cutters that could coordinate with Mark Lancaster (see the Directors page for his contact info) Please call him so that possibly some of this brushing could be done before the April 11th or April 18th Hunter Ed Field Days
- Electrical work in the club house. We need some outlets tested, feeds traced and then possibly an install of lights in one area.
- Are you a handy carpenter – we have some work that needs to be finished on the trap building.
Annual Kids Fishing Derby – the date is set for June 6, 2026
Mark your calendars
Don Clark is the organizer for the Annual Kids Fishing Derby. He has done all the needed ordering of the fish and gotten the needed permit from the State of NH.
Again this year we will be getting the fish from Hi-On-A-Hill Trout Farm in Plainfield,NH. This year they have native brook trout available, we have ordered some Natives and some Rainbows.
At the May Meeting we will be looking for Volunteers for this activity. This year we have members from the Mountaineers 4-H club that will be assisting with activities at the Fishing Derby. Come and learn to cast …identify fish species ….and learn what ‘bugs’ the fish like to eat.
We are working to have a fishing ‘pond’ for those kids 6 and under.
